If 'Ayub Khan" was court Martialed

General Ayub Khan

If "Ayub Khan" was Court martialed

Former chief of Pakistan's most powerful intelligence agency, ISI, General Hameed Gul, said in an interview, "Making Field Marshal Ayub Khan as the Defense Minister while being the Army Chief was a fundamental mistake that paved the way for the political role of the army." Now, it is a different thing that the political lies that General Gill himself fed are also very painful.

The concept of a state within a state shook the system of this new state within a few years of the creation of Pakistan. In just a few years, the direction of this country could be predicted. The question is that if in 1951, 11 military officers and 4 civilians could have received long sentences in the conspiracy to overthrow a government in the Rawalpindi Conspiracy Case, then in 1958 Major General and President, why was not a case of sedition against Iskandar Mirza and General Ayub Khan for breaking the 1956 constitution and imposing martial law.  If we had blocked this path at that time, perhaps there would have been no need for another constitution in the country, there would have been no martial law, East Pakistan would not have been separated, and today we would not be talking about the arrest of General Faiz Hameed and the court martial. The way forward is still to end political interference and let politicians solve things politically and not always look at gate number 4. At least take a lesson from those who never tire of talking about this gate day and night... and then... what happened to them.

General Ayub Khan himself had occupied it by breaking the constitution.

In order to extend his power, he first disqualified nearly two thousand politicians under the infamous Proda and Abdo laws and then imposed his preferred system of 'fundamental democracy'. It is said about the Pindi Conspiracy case that the coup plan against Prime Minister Liaquat Ali Khan's government was dropped but still 11 officers including Major General Akbar Khan and communist leader Sajjad Zaheer and eminent poet Faiz Ahmed were accused of conspiracy. Faiz was punished. Now the matter has come from Faiz Ahmed Faiz to General Faiz.

This is the dark side of our political history that in 77 years of martial law, every martial law was declared legitimate by the Supreme Court. If former President Iskandar Mirza who imposed the first martial law and was later humiliated by his own nominated Defense Minister General Ayub Khan. If both of them had been held accountable, there would not have been three more dictatorial periods in this country, martial law would have been imposed, and the political interference of the army and ISI in political matters would not have increased, nor would East Pakistan have become Bangladesh.

If they had been held accountable, the judiciary with the "theory of necessity" would not have been born, nor would we have seen an attack on the freedom of the press today. It was quite possible that the 1956 constitution would still exist today under which general elections would have been held in October 1958 and this country would have gone in a certain direction. When breaking the constitution and imposing martial law is called the correct action, then General Yahya will come. General Zia and General Musharraf will also become rulers, Nawaz Sharif will also be brought as a political project and Imran Khan, dozens of Muslim Leagues will also be formed and the process of forming, breaking, forming and overthrowing parties will continue.

That is why General Faiz Hameed is also a product of such a system.

It is surprising that the founder PTI is calling him an asset. From General Hameed Gul to General Faiz, whether it is General Ehtesham Zameer or General Zaheer Islam, General Pasha or General Rizwan, this is a very serious debate which is connected with constant political uncertainty.

I wish the Asghar Khan case would be acted upon and those who take and give money would be punished. Khan Sahib, sometimes you fall under the spell of General Musharraf and later apologize by calling it a political mistake, sometimes you get influenced by General Bajwa, lest this happens, later you also say about General Faiz. Opinions should change.

It was also our misfortune that we could not form political parties, but the effort was made by bringing business into politics. If you examine only the democracy from 2008 to 2024, you will find that first Asif Ali Zardari extended General Kayani for a full three years, either he knows why or Kayani himself.

Then in 2013, Mian Nawaz Sharif was elected as the Prime Minister and for the first time there was a peaceful transfer of power, so there was some hope that we had moved in a positive direction, but Imran Khan talked about opening four constituencies and staged a long sit-in.

Solving the major issue himself, he requested General Raheel Sharif to end Imran Khan's sit-in even though the entire opposition was with him in Parliament as the PTI had resigned from the assembly. However, the matter was still resolved by forming a judicial commission because Raheel Sharif refused to remove the government.

Then begins the era of General Bajwa and General Faiz after the punishment of Mian Sahib in Panama Leaks in 2017, as the game played before the 2018 elections weakened the political system. After the rebellion against the Muslim League government in Balochistan, making Imran Khan the prime minister after the elections was a lesson for him, but the problem of our politicians is that if my government is being formed by some action and another's is being formed.

Everything is declared to be in the national interest. The same thing happened later to topple the government of Imran himself and this time the action of the state within the state was called a motion of no confidence. The entire fight started with one file and ended with another file.

What and how the drop scene of May 9 is waiting for. But the accountability of General Faiz Hameed and few other officers or the conclusion of the Imran Faiz case, the problem will not be solved until it is institutionally decided that no project will be brought up or terminated.
Don't think of the constitution as a piece of paper, just think of it as the direction of the state. If this political uncertainty is to be permanently ended.

Today, I don't know why I am missing my friend from Karachi University, late Senator Hasil Bizenjo.
If there was a democracy in the country and there was no state within the state, he would have been the Chairman of the Senate. He had a clear majority I called the night "Congratulations". The answer came, "Yar Mazhar! What a blessing, Faiz has blessed everyone." If it were him today, I would say, "Where are those who were so fond of him?"
