Lack of national thinking
Lack of national thinking |
It was only 4 years after the establishment of Pakistan that on October 16, 1951, Liaquat Ali Khan, the first Prime Minister of this new country, was martyred in Rawalpindi at the same place where another Prime Minister, Benazir Bhutto, was martyred 66 years later. Liaquat Bagh.
Both the files of these murders were closed saying that foreigners were behind the murders. With this, it was justified that the real killers had escaped and the conspiracy was exposed or allowed to happen. After all, there must be a reason why we could not become a nation in 76 years, nor could we create a national democratic thought, we just kept on chanting.
There is no home to live in. All of us are here
If we look at the situation today, the lack of this thinking is clearly visible in our leadership and in the state narrative. There can be no two opinions that it is a matter of great honor for Pakistan that the summit of "Shanghai Cooperation Organization" is being held in Islamabad, which reminded me of the 1974 Islamic Conference of Heads of State. It was seen that the national leadership of that time, the government and the opposition, put aside their political differences and gave the world a message of a positive and united nation. But at this time not only proof of irresponsibility is being given by both sides but perhaps we are failing to convert such important opportunities in favor of Pakistan. Let me give you some examples of this non-asthma. What happened in the last week or two and what should have happened.
(1) The call for protest on the occasion of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf conference is beyond comprehension. 15th date and election of D Chowk on which the party itself was divided. If PTI or founder PTI had postponed all activities for a week and given a positive message to the foreign visitors through welcome statements, their political stature would have increased. However, PTI chairman Barrister Gauhar's decision to postpone the October 15 protest on the sidelines of the SCO meeting on Monday night is welcome. Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi has also assured medical examination of the founder. It would have been good if the PTI had announced unconditionally and the government had already arranged a meeting with his sister and a medical examination. How long will we remain captive to the politics of ego?
(2) If the government had postponed the campaign for the 26th constitutional amendment, had stopped the crackdown on PTI, there would have been no doomsday and no government would have known.
(3) Was it time to ban the Pashtun Protection Movement on the one hand and then Mahmudhu Ayaz standing in the same line two days later, what a good message! When KP Chief Minister Ali Main Gandapur was seen sitting in the middle, Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi on his left and Governor Faisal Karim Kundi on his right. And the agenda of the Jirga of PTM which was declared null and void a few days ago.
What was the need for the ban?
Currently the most effective and popular voice of Balochistan is Dr. Mah Rang Baloch. The efforts of the 26th Constitutional Amendment and the establishment of constitutional courts led by the PPP and Muslim League-N could have brought Mahrang to the negotiating table. But what happened was that she was going to America to participate in an event of "TIME" magazine there, but she was stopped at Karachi Airport. I asked him what was the reason and he replied, "An FIA officer came and said there is some problem with your visa. I said if that is the case then I will not be allowed to enter the US but it is your problem." No''. The state may disagree with her words, but she says, I believe in democracy, but only if democracy comes. Despite all odds, we completed the case of treason against him in Karachi itself. (4) Practically, Section 144 is imposed in the entire country at present and in Karachi, an attempt was made to stop the "Tolerance March" by state coercion through non-tolerant methods. The videos and pictures that were seen in TV channels, social media and newspapers, on an occasion when we are going to hold such a big conference, what is the message to the world?
(5) Suicide attack on Chinese engineers at Karachi Airport in which two Chinese nationals were killed, the damage could have been more. We easily dismissed it as a foreign conspiracy. What could be a bigger intelligence failure at this point? Consider the Shanghai Cooperation Organization conference, the four-day visit of the Chinese Prime Minister to Pakistan and this incident.
If there is a positive message and a ray of light during this period, it is the International Theater and Cultural Festival in Karachi in which groups from 38 countries are participating. Credit certainly goes to the governing body of the Arts Council and the president, Ahmed Dashah.
The arrival of the Indian Foreign Minister on the occasion of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization conference may not have melted the ice between the two countries, but the progress can be said to be positive. There is a whole history of tension between the two countries and we wasted the opportunities we got, for example when Indian Prime Minister Vajpayee came to Lahore or when President Pervez Musharraf went to Agra. Even knowing and understanding that the neighbors cannot be changed, unfortunately our thought has been to keep relations strained and the axis of BJP's politics has been anti-Pakistan, but we have missed opportunities due to our mistakes.
The question is that the conference of Shanghai Cooperation Organization will end by tomorrow, we just pray that everything will be fine because Pakistan cannot afford any kind of negative politics, because if we want to move forward economically, we have to stabilize the democratic system. But there are no positive indications of what we are going to do in the next two weeks. The language used by Ali Amin Gandapur or Khawaja Asif can lead to conflict, but cooperation cannot be created. Therefore, from October 17 to October 25, if we reach a consensus on the 26th constitutional amendment, it will be good news, but I see dark clouds hovering over democracy. It will be better if it goes away without rain.
